The Little Lurie Gardeners program is a 5-week series that offers children and their parents and caregivers an interactive exploration of the natural world through live music and movement in our a one-of-a-kind urban oasis in Millennium Park, where art and nature meet. Local award-winning botanical artist and teacher, Heeyoung Kim, visits natural areas of the Midwest and paints native plants of our prairies and woods. The nature of her work has made her more sensitive than most about the effects of climate change on our local native habitat. Less than 1% of the original tallgrass prairie remains - time is running out for plants native to these areas! Poetry Workshop: Forms & Features: The Language of Plants and Flowers

All are welcome to a poetry discussion and creative writing workshop led by Maggie Queeney of the Poetry Foundation. To celebrate fall in the Lurie Garden, we will read and discuss poetry that examines the language of plants and flowers, including the etymologies of species’ multiple names, and floriography, the coded messages composed of bouquets. After spending time in the garden, participants will compose original poems that explore the many languages of plants and flowers. Space is limited, registration requested.…
