Penstemon digitalis (beardtongue) features white two lipped tubular flowers borne in panicles atop erect rigid stems.that bloom from mid-spring to early summer. Their basal leaves are elliptic and stem leaves are lance-shaped to oblong. The long flower tube of Penstemon digitalis (beardtongue) gives a hint towards which pollinators favor this plant making it a favorite of long-tongued bees and hummingbirds which can reach deep enough to get the nectar. The common name beard tongue comes from the sterile stamen that have tuft of small hairs.
