In Memory of Howard L. Alt
The creation of The Howard L. Alt Native Garden Fund was inspired by Howard’s great love for Lurie Garden, his desire to teach others about the ecological benefits of native plantings, and to create spaces that brought people the same joy that Lurie Garden did to him and others.
Howard was a great friend of Lurie Garden. We first got to know Howard when he came to one of our Plant Sales and needed two wheelbarrows to help him get his purchases to his car. He would visit the garden frequently and send us questions. He was a member of Lurie Garden and generous supporter. As we got to know him we came to learn that he was paying very close attention to the garden’s plants and plant communities as well as educating himself on how to make a naturalistic planting at his home and in his neighborhood. Howard was a kindred spirit – he understood what we are doing here, shared our excitement, and was eager to share the benefits gardens like ours offer to our communities and the human spirit. We will miss him.
At the request of the Alt Family, your gift to the Lurie Garden through The Howard L. Alt Native Garden Fund will be dedicated to supporting our nature programming that is always free to the public and aims to bring the community closer to nature through lectures, hands-on activities, and garden walks.
We will send the Alt Family a card notifying them that you made a contribution and will include any message you may add in the form below. You will receive a receipt via email immediately once your transaction is complete.
If you would like to send a check please make checks out to Lurie Garden/MPF (Millennium Park Foundation) and put “The Howard L. Alt Native Garden Fund” in the memo area and include any note you’d like us to pass along to the family. Please send it to the address below:
