tulip ‘Purissima’

Tulipa ‘Purissima’ is an early-mid flowering spring tulip that is the first of our taller tulips to bloom in the garden. Its white blooms with creamy yellow centers have a lemony scent.

They hold up well to the vagaries of Chicago spring weather. T. ‘Purissima’, synonymous with ‘White Emperor’ is part of the Fosteriana group of tulips. T. ‘Purissima’ tends to return year after year, unlike many of our other taller tulips, which lose vigor after a year or two. This tulip gives plenty of joyful return on the investment, especially watching the way light fills this bloom, creating a luminous effect in the spring garden as Virginia bluebells and Narcissus begin showing-off their very first blooms.
